Endless views across the Pacific

From the inception of this 5,500 sq. ft (510 sq. meters) residence in Malibu, Warren Garrett acknowledged that the proximity and power of the natural environment (the Pacific Ocean) would be the driving force behind the interior architecture and design of the home.

Stone flooring from the Pyrenees was flamed and brushed to mimic the color tones and textures of the boulders and rocks that rest along the sandy beach below. Walls clad in B.C. cedar were installed in a vertical pattern to provide warmth, and emphasize the interior volumes which allowed the home to “breathe” as the daily tides would rise and fall.

One of the seventeen projects in our new book Modern Residences (03/2020).
